MIAMI (CBSMiami) –A South Florida woman who was detained in Cuba and spent night in jail is now back in Miami.
Melissa Acosta’s family held a press conference Tuesday to let everyone know she’s home, she’s safe and she is not charged with anything.
“I’m happy to be home,” said 20-year old Acosta.
That’s all she said but her father Bernardo Valdes said the days without her were torturous.
“I’m not emotional but it seems like I cried so much my tear ducts stopped working,” said Valdes.
Two weeks ago, Melissa’s mother said Melissa went to Cuba with her brother’s baby, the baby’s mother and the baby’s grandmother.
Originally, the family said the group was detained for suspicion of smuggling synthetic marijuana into Cuba in their suitcases but now her attorney Patrick McGeehan said, “We cannot confirm what it was, just that there was an investigation.” McGeehan also…
