HIGHLAND, Mo. (KMOX) – A teenager has died following a single-vehicle crash Friday evening in rural Highland.

The St. Louis Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the girl as Alexis D’Amico of Grantfork, a 16-year-old junior at Highland High School, the Belleville News Democrat reports.

The accident happened on Michael Road, near Iberg Road, in rural Highland. When police arrived, they found two juvenile female victims off the road in a Corvette.

D’Amico was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital where she later died. The passenger was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators believe the car was traveling at a high rate of speed when it left the road and ended up in a field.
