The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission will observe the senatorial and gubernatorial elections in the United States.
The IEBC team in the US is led by Chairman Issack Hassan. He is accompanied by commissioners Thomas Letangule, Mohamed Alawi and the director of voter registration and electoral operations, Immaculate Kassait
Mr Hassan confirmed to the Nation that his team would participate as observers in the 2014 US midterm elections.
“There is a lot to learn from this election. As you know, America has very advanced electoral institutions that can be very helpful to us in our quest to improve the way we conduct our elections,” he said.
The IEBC team signed a memorandum of understanding with the International Foundation for Electoral Systems for them to be allowed to observe the elections in Washington, DC.
Meanwhile, officials from the IEBC will meet Kenyans living in the US on Thursday at the country’s embassy in Washington, DC.
Mr Hassan said the agenda of the meeting is to update the diaspora on issues the IEBC is working on to ensure they vote in the next general election.
“Since we are here, we thought it wise to meet with a few Kenyans living here so that we exchange ideas as we update them on any new developments,” he said
